April 21, 2013: Call the Doc...Martin!

Today's look is a lesson in bold simplicity. Not a lot of pieces or patterns, so every one is formulated for maximum impact. Shirt, pants, boots, necklace, jacket. Boom. Done!

Here's a prime example of how to give your work pieces some overtime hours. Everyone wears regular blazers, but who wants to be regular? Regular is dull! For the sake of shaking things up, this coral blazer is collarless, has some interesting darting in the pocket region, and is hiding fancy pinstripes in its sneaky lining. Only a basic white shirt needed underneath, one which has served me well as a general in the war against see-through white tees. The hardships we ladies are put through...the most versatile of all pieces constantly wants to give the world a look at our underthings. Not this time!

Capping off black stretchy skinnies is one of the shoe scores I'm most psyched about. Doc Martin is my footwear idol second only to Chuck, but he is not a kind fellow to those of the penny-pinching variety. However, I came across these doppelgängers for well under half the price of the genuine articles! The white is so fresh for spring, and you gotta love the combo of coral, mossy green and china blue in the subtle floral pattern.

Since this ensemble is centered on color blocking, how about a statement necklace that works as another full block? Funky! The blue matches the boot flowers to a T (as does the blazer), so that everything gets tied neatly into one pretty package. It's a BIG mama, but the matte opaqueness make the "gems" seem dainty. I swear by Body Central jewelry for precisely this reason; how much would something this cascading cost elsewhere? Mucho. There? Four bucks, yo!
