April 18, 2013: Red Hot!

When you want a single simple piece that stands out like a spotlight (alliterations are fun!), then look no further. Along with the LBD and the more recently popular LWD, a Little Red Dress is a closet staple no stylin' gal should be without! It's a bold look that works as a blank canvass for all the fun extras you can think of. Mine is a lovely lightweight knit that works for cooler and warmer days, depending on how you work it.

This dress was originally supposed to be for my The Secret World of Arrietty costume-which, if you haven't seen it, is another example of why Hayao Miyazaki is the shining example of why traditional animation should never die-but this getup reminds me more of the latest Doctor Who companion, Clara/Oswin. I think it's the belt.

"Oh giiirl, I KNOW you did not steal my look!"
"Problem?"

A special goodie from my Easter basket, some striped flats pick up the red as well as tossing a bundle of other colors into the mix! The beauty of these is that they can work with so many other solid color dresses; I have a cobalt one that would be just as nifty. A touch of thin black piping gives them some extra definition.

With that much stripey craziness, accessories are all black simplicity. A wide black stretchy belt works MIRACLES with any shapeless dress or long top, take my word for it. This funky little obelisk-y pendant came from Boyfriend after a summer back home in India! And for the cherry on top, your basic black bangles. Fin!
